Analysis
Question-Hypothesis-Question is a form of free writing that is meant to help the writer create more ideas and see where their thought process can go. It starts with free writing about a question, and at the end of the free writing you ask a question that you do not know the answer to. Then you try to form a hypothesis that answers that question. You then repeat the process by writing about the new hypothesis, with the second free writing ending with a question about that hypothesis. This overall process repeats again and again until you finally feel like you have a good hypothesis to start writing about.
My QHQ helped me form a coherent thought plan for my second essay. It helped me point out flaws in my previous train of thought, and set me on a stronger base of thought. I started out with questioning if a discourse requires complete compliance of all its members. I go on and repeat this process of free writing until I reach a final question, “In what way does the community affect the way that the genre it is centered upon can be joined?”
By participating in this free writing I was able to form a more coherent idea on what I wanted my second essay to be about. This also helped me find a way to integrate the second source, Paul Gee, into my original subject.
